Quoted text begins.I have read that the Inca had a skidding method for stones that was fairly
simple.

Craig,
A couple of years ago, NOVA, of PBS did a series on ancient mysteries. The
work of the Inca's was covered by a group of "experts".
Among many questions looked at was how they moved the large stones. They
went to a village way back in the Andes which had a block of stone in the
village center that was left from the old days. When asked how their
ancestors moved the stones, the people showed the experts. Using ropes made
from local plants that are commonly used to repair the many rope bridges in
that area, around 200 people working together, were able to drag the stone
all around the village , at the speed of a slow run! The trick was that the
streets were made of cobble stones which allowed the larger block to easily
skid along. The block was about 6 feet square.
These simple people have a great system of working together to get things
done. Something that we all could benefit from today in our busy isolated
world.
