Cameras
Hey Julianna,
My preferences are based on required function and cost. I, like most others
am in business, and want to turn a profit. The computer type cameras are
generally cheaper, they are mostly point and shoot (for employees and
clients), and the software not only loads with good compatibility, but it
also has a more shallow learning curve (for me.. cuz I can be kind of a
dummy). Webwork generally doesn't require the kind of resolution and
clarity that one would want for displaying artwork. 20 years ago this was
the case for the print industry as well. I don't think anyone screens
pictures anymore. I do agree with you that if I want really good
resolution... I pull out my 20 year old Pentax K-1000 and then scan the
results for use. I also find that I get the best results if I scan a 35mm
photo and then play with the photosuite stuff. I can work with the
resolution to get a sharp image that loads like a rocket better than with a
digital image. That may just be me though.
The optics and systems used by the major camera companies are amazing, but
many times when I have transferred the picture to a PC they are at a
disadvantage to the computer cameras for a lot of the things that I do.
They don't give me the kind of resolution that works well with the
photosuite stuff. I was listing items for auction on buckit.biz, and the
good images wouldn't load right. I had photographed some "Collector"
plates, and the detail just wasn't there. I redid them with I think the
cheapest camera that I own, and they were fine. Go Figure?
Clive,
Most folks will let you borrow their digital for a day or so, and then show
off to you during the download. If you are willing to endure this
"slideshow" it can get you more acquainted with what is out there. Ohhh...
and yes, Julianna is VERY right about the batteries!
