Josep María Subirachs
A recent trip to Barcelona introduced me to the work of a fantastic
sculptor - who to my shame I knew nothing about. My first introduction was
a phrase in my guide book saying how controvercial the decission had been to
commision him to complete the passion fascade of the Sagrada Famila. It is
an incredibaly graphic rendition of the story - very strong.

Looking later at the drawings (on show at the Sagrada Famila alongside what
remains of Gaudi's drawings and models) the precsision is clear -
intersecting arcs, golden triangles. This makes it all sound clinical - it
isn't, it's startling.

Later I found that other pieces I had been drwan to around the city were
also by this man

Having gone to see the organic works of Gaudi my trip was enriched by
'finding' Subirachs.
Well, the sun's shining - time to go and bash some rock :-)
Cheers
