Stainless steel fixings
Quoted text begins. But will it last for centuries?
End of quote.
Stainless steel is composed from iron, but it also contains chromium.
Chromium reacts instantly with oxygen to form chrome oxide, an invisible
passive protective layer called ceramic.
The ceramic layer is resistant to further attack from corrosion, weathering
at a rate of 0.05mm per year.
