I've heard of many cases where a scoop is cut out of the upper and lower
stones, and a big pebble (maybe 3 to 8 cm diameter) is placed in. If the
top piece isn't top heavy or at risk of tipping over, all a vertical pin
needs to do is keep the piece from sliding around.
