Old stone repair?
Quoted text begins. What is the work of a Master, a Servant, or a Student?
End of quote.
Teamwork is actually my point; masons across the centuries working together
to keep stonework in good repair.
I really wasn't trying to make the distinction between master and student.
Rather that a student (or master) of today, using the similar hand tools,
with the same care for craftmanship, is just as capable as one from previous
eras, of completing the job that the master carver laid out. Replacing a
piece of damaged stone can work to stabilize a structure as a whole.
I have been told that many places in Europe work more under this rule of
thumb, but I do know that the debate still lingers on....
