Hi Clive,

Should the job of specifying structural elements be left to the artist? Surely
it is an engineer's job to work out loadings & bending moments, and advise
accordingly. The artist can take or leave the advice, or seek a second opinion,
but the installation method must stand up to scrutiny in a court of law if the
sculpture ever fell over and hit someone.

There are manufacturer's guidelines to follow, particularly with Chemset and
other specialised products, but stainless steel threaded rod would have to be
assessed by a mechanical engineer for indidual application.

Regards,
Simon
