Cool fresh start
Well for those interested. I was educated as a geologist (B.S.
1968), apprentice as a mason in the early 70's, and contracted
masonry work from the mid 70's until today---preferring stone to
brick and block, but competent with all of it. Began carving in
1980 as the result of spending a lot of time watching , and
talking with several sculptors who were adding pieces to a
sculpture collection in my little town (Liberty Hill, TX). The
core collection is the result of an international sculpture
symposium that was held here in 1976. Did a bit of time in a
mill carving shop, and working with some other architectural
carvers during the mid 80's, and started my own carving business
in 1987 or 88. www.jvcstoneworks.com
Have always had a "thing" for stone, and appreciate the fact
that I have been able to turn what is my passion into a sort of
living. The architectural work feeds the family, the sculpture
feeds my soul, and the occasional sale of a sculptural piece is
a tremendous bonus.
