Cool fresh start
Hi, I'm Gary Grossman and I live in Athens Georgia where I'm a prof. at
the University of Georgia. I started stonecarving about two years ago
and have worked mostly in soft stone, alabaster, steatite and talc
soapstone and I have a bunch of other stones to try working on (e.g.,
wonderstone, chlorite, anhydrite, marble, etc.). We have an art store
that has lots of stone and sculpture supplies here in Athens, and the
owner has been my sculpting "fairy godmother". Some of my work is shown
on my art business web site (url below). I hate being bored so I have a
bunch of interests including, my family (wife and 2 daughters,
gardening, restoring and writing with old fountain pens, hiking &
running, film, reading, etc. Sculpting displaced my next to last hobby
which was writing poetry in free verse. Because of my interest in old
fountain pens I love to write letters so if you write me a letter I'll
send one back (contact me back channel for addresses). If you want to
put a face to my name you can take a look at my lab web site (url below)
which has lots of pictures of me doing research stuff. These days I'm
mostly on lurk mode on the list, but I've learned a tremendous amount
from the experts here like John VC, and Simon, and George, and Don D.
who's probably teaching sculpture for UGA in Cortona Italy right now
(lucky dog). If I've left out your name and your an expert forgive me,
I've learned from everyone here! Oh and yes I'm one of those stuffy
guys who has a big signature block <g >. Soooo, have a good weekend, and
an easy fast for you MOT's. g2
