Hello all,
This carving is complete. Approximately 89 days of work, 7 days a week, 7AM
till 7PM. Today, Saturday was spent doing some final sanding and carving of
hand prints. Yes, the website is misleading, apparently the webmaster is a
little out of touch with reality when it comes to time frames.
Background on the stone. Carrera marble hand picked by John Fisher who
lives in Pietrasanta Italy, weight 19 tons.
About 4 tons removed during carving. If you look at his time line on the
website he kept pretty close to his schedule.
He was the sole carver on this project. We, a small group of us, assisted in
the celebrations today and helped do a bit of sanding. The sculpture is to
be moved on Wednesday to another location in the park where a base has been
constructed this past week.
John is a wonderful person and very inspirational carver. He works without
drawings or models and is able to do wonderful things with the stone. During
this exhibition it is amazing that he got any work done at all because he
was always more than willing to stop and talk with anyone that wanted to
talk about Italy, Stone carving, or the project.
Take a look at a site regarding John and his work. More pictures of the
project are under the "onsite carving news" at the top of the page.
