Career path
The only alternative way I've done dry lay is to butt the stone against a
block wall or other sub-siding and back mortar them. Use plenty of wall ties
and take care to get very tight joints. I've done a few of these with no
signature of a mortar joint. You could also do a retaining wall but it would
have to be a double-withe wall, mortaring the center area. I've done a
fountain wall like this also, water trickles out between the cracks, very
sturdy.
