Cool fresh start
I think that I have never known
A poem as pretty as a stone.
But that said, ABKnight's poem came close.
I also will humbly re-introduce myself. I live in Friday Harbor,
Washington, USA. I've only been carving for a little more than a year. But
since then I've been to 25 days of symposiums, and I have "the fever." I've
just finished expanding a small covered work area beside my garage so that I
can work on more than one project at once. I've mostly carved soft stone
[five alabaster carvings, and one limestone], but have a granite maple-leaf
bench roughed out, and a granite fountain that is somewhat more than a glint
in my eye.
Some of you were kind enough to offer suggestions on a prior query from me
on shop design. I will make available to list members the article on shop
design which I put together in part from those suggestions, once the
Northwest Stone Sculptor's Association publishes the last part of it this
coming month.
I echo the comments of others, thanking the list contributors for their
wisdom, wit, and willingness to impart their knowledge to others like
myself, even when their prior answer to a similar question is buried in the
list archives.
And finally, a brief note on the prior exchanges over the dangers of using
rebar for pinning, because it expands when it rusts. One solution to the
rust/expansion problem that was recommended to me for underwater
construction when rebar is used to strengthen concrete, is to use
epoxy-coated rebar, which is apparently commercially available [but not from
my lumber yard].
