fresh start
Greetings to all my fellow lithophiles,
As one who tends to lurk more than respond to threads, I have been delighted
to read the re-introductions from the "regulars"- since we hear from most of
you so regularly, I find myself feeling like I know you as well as I know
the people I work with everyday. Thus, I also will take a moment to
re-introduce myself and perhaps even up a bit the one-sided friendships I
find I am forming with you people.
I am currently residing in Orem, Utah, where I work as a biomedical engineer
developing joint replacement implants made from synthetic diamond. As such,
I get to play with a lot of industrial diamond tooling. What with all the
diamond cutting, grinding, and polishing going on around me at work it
seemed a shame to not to apply those principles at play- thus I scaled up my
woodcarving to stone. I've been carving stone for almost 3 years now, and
would not want to trialize it by calling it a hobby- it's an all-out
secondary life style. In fact, I think of myself more as a stone-sculptor
who happens to do engineering on the side. My sculpture is primarily
figurative and life size, but since I haven't had a very large workshop in
the past to do big pieces this means most of my pieces have been of various
life-sized body parts, rather than an entire body. I studied chemical
engineering, art, and pre-med in school.
I love the flow of knowledge and expertise happening here in the group, keep
up the good work!
Happy carving,
Tim Bunton
