Subject:
creativity and politics?
Hello..
I was reading the comments by Don about creativity and he said something
very interesting that I also feel...
"I carve and make sculpture because the process gives meaning and
understanding to the world I inhabit."
And being the world we live in so complicated and aggressive, being the wars
we go through and the pain we are seeing around us and being in such a
heated election year...I was thinking....do artists show their political
views in their art, do we become part of the political machine when we
create something with an anti- war meaning ( for example) or a piece we may
call " peace". I have seen some of this movement specially in painting and I
would be interested in knowing if any of you have observed or participated
in such creations. I remember in the 60's and 70's art was very political
oriented ( I was very young then...) and now it is hard to see as if even
artists feel coerced or scared to show their political opinions. Can that be
so?
Well...maybe some of you know more about the subject.....thanks all.....and
happy carving...
