metal inclusions
I've bought several pieces of slate over the last few months, and I
notice almost all of them have a small (1-3 mm) sized piece of shiny
metal in them. At first I thought this was a piece of steel from the
machinery, but the people where I buy the stone tell me its a natural
inclusion. What surprises me is that in an otherwise consistently
uniform, pure stone like black slate you suddenly find an inclusion,
that this is the only kind of inclusion, and that the metal is shiny
(no rust or discoloration or rough surface). Just out of curiosity,
does anyone know how these metal kernels come about? What metal are
they?
