Subject:
Taxonomy of Stone Workers
Hello Stone Workers ...
LinkMaster needs your advice. We have been trying to re-categorise all the
links in the Stone Directory http://aboutstone.org/vl/ and we have run
into a slight taxonomic difficulty.
We have moved all the websites by or about individual stone sculptors and
carvers into
http://aboutstone.org/vl/Stone_Sculptors_and_Carvers/
where they are categorised alphabetically. The next stage will be an
additional regional classification. Those are the two obvious ways of making
them easy to find.
Here is the first question: is there any other practical classification of
stone workers? My guess is that there isn't. I know there are different
stone skills and trades (sculpture, architectural carving, letter-cutting,
etc), but many (perhaps most) stone workers are versatile and don't have
narrow specialisms. But list members have much more knowledge, so I thought
I would invite comments.
Second question -- We are not quite sure how to handle studios and small
businesses with more than one person. Right now we have put them in two
categories
http://aboutstone.org/vl/Ateliers_and_Studios/
http://aboutstone.org/vl/Services/
but we don't know if that makes sense to stone insiders. Can you think of a
better way?
