Tools and hardfacing
Yo,Stoners,
What I think you're asking about is the different types of steels and
the process of hardening/tempering those steels.Hardfacing,as I know
it,involves cladding the wear points of a tool with carbide.
I can go into a LONG discussion of toolmaking and the black arts of
annealing(the woodstove trick, with or without druid dancing although dancing
helps to pass the time and the trees appreciate it) drawing, tempering and
cladding if folks are interested and it hasn't been covered in the archives.
The reason I asked before launching off into it is that some folks find it
either boring or over thier heads and I didn't want to post something that
wasn't of interest to everyone. The learning curve is somewhat steep and most
folks prefer to hand these things off to folks like me and not think about
it themselves.
Let me know if there's interest and how in depth you want to get either
here or off line.I'll gladly share any and all that I know on the subject
to include books and homework projects.
Mainely,Bob
PS-The official greeting is an inside joke.
