That's what I usually do.It helps when you're starting out to buy a
small bit of the same type to keep in your pocket as a reference.Most
companies that sell these bits can provide the specific angles for different
materials if you feel you need it.
Some folks find it easier to work from a bench stone with the bit held it
thier hands,others like to put the bit in a vice and move the diamond
stone.Whatever works for you.
These carbide masonry bits are nowhere near as critical as bits for wood
or steel and any good machinist can sharpen those freehand at a bench
grinder.
Go for it!You may be surprised how easy it is and soon your buddies will
be bringing all thier bits to you cause you're the "pro"(remember to charge
them,you can't be a "pro" unless money changes hands).;^)
