Success at drilling long holes in granite
Pw,
With an oxy-acetylene torch, I brought the entire drill bit end to a dark red and then dunked it in oil. I think the dark red is a lower temperature than the brighter red needed to melt the brazing rod I used and so the whole thing wouldn't come undone. I am not an experienced brazer. I don't know if brazing rods have different melting temperatures like silver solder. I just bought flux-coated rod at the welding store.
Glenn
Quoted text begins.Glenn...congratulations. How did you heat treat ends that had previously
been brazed? That has me confused...how did you use heat treating?
End of quote.
