stone carving workshop
I think there is a little confusion here. Tom Blatt was
talking about sculpture symposiums ie. events where many
sculptors gather in a community each working on and leaving
behind a sculpture. Many of these do provide at least room and
board and materials, and some do provide honorarium also.
During the symposium held here in Liberty Hill, each participant
was taken in by a local home, and they were our guests for the
duration-- about 6 weeks. Local quarries provided materials,
and local contractors provided air compressors and generators,
and crains.
The symposium being offered by Tomas Lipps and the stone
foundation is more on the lines of a weekend seminar with
speakers addressing various stone related topics, and then the
opportunity to participate in classes both in construction type
stone work, and carving. This type of activity I would expect
to pay for as there is conciderable expence incured in the
organization and implementation . No different from
Marble/Marble, or the Indiana limestone events, or going to
Italy for a summer carving work shop.
Lets keep oranges with oranges, and not mix them in with the
apples
