Julie,
I'll chime in with what has already been said. Get your lungs checked, if
for no other reason then to have a record of how you are now, that can be
used for comparison in future checkups.
Silica particles and many other stone dusts are dangerous . If you are in a
business that exposes you to dust, get a good , comfortable mask and get
used to using it whenever you might be breathing the stuff.
My mask has replaceable cartridges, and cost about 50 dollars. It is easy to
get on and off, and you can get different kinds of cartridges for different
hazards. A dust cartridge is not good enough for paint fumes for example.
All the good stone suppliers have what you need. My mask is about 3 years
old, and needs to be replaced, so you will get a lot of use from a quality
product.
