stone carving workshop
Quoted text begins.I hope Tom Lipps could tell me and everyone, if the school is open for walk
in visitors, and is there times when the whole place shuts down? I enjoy the
company of fellow stone workers, and the school sounds like a fine place.
End of quote.
George,
for information on the American College of the Building Arts visit
their website, http://www.buildingartscollege.us ,
briefly stated it is, or will be, a training center for traditional
crafts, not only stonework and stone carving, but metal work, wood
work, plastering, etc. their curriculum will formally commence next
year. as I understand it they will offer a two year and a four year
program. I'm sure visitors would be welcome.
leading up to that formal commencement are a series of workshops, two
of which, the Stone Foundation, in association with the College, is
organizing , one in stonemasonry and stone carving.
the Stone Foundation is not a school -at least not yet- though
education and training figure largely in its stated mission.
John Van De Camp had it right, it's "more on the lines of a weekend
seminar with speakers addressing various stone related topics, and
then the opportunity to participate in classes both in construction
type stone work, and carving. This type of activity I would expect
to pay for as there is considerable expenses incurred in the
organization and implementation . No different from Marble/Marble,
or the Indiana limestone events, or going to Italy for a summer
carving work shop. Lets keep oranges with oranges, and not mix them
in with the apples". thanks John.
only the order is different than that, the workshops will precede the
symposium. you're welcome to visit the workshops and there will be a
demonstration of dry stone masonry to which the public is invited,
but admittance to the meeting hall where the presentations take place
will require a "ticket". check it out at www.stonefoundation.org.
