"Coolay" lifting device
I recently saw that the Gold Medal at the International Invention of
the Year Awards in London was won by inventor Jim Cooley who has come
up with a device for lifting and handling heavy objects. It is called a
"Coolay". Apparently it is "stunningly simple" and involves a spring
and a grabbing mechanism. It won in the Industry category and beat out
all kinds of high tech stuff. My Cooley was 62 and building a stone
house for his daughter when he invented it to move some 5000 blocks.
He now has a new version that supposedly lifts much more weight. He has
a 10 year patent on the thing. I can't find any more info on it. I
originally saw the article in the Oct 28th issue of the Irish paper
"The Kerryman". Does anyone know more about it?
