Simon I totally agree. A true geologic slate is way to brittle
to bend. However as a participant on several other stone
related forums, I can tell you that there is some real garbage
being marketed as slate right now. Some of it is little more
than real dry mud, and when it gets wet it softens up
conciderably. Might be able to bend something like this
utilizing a steam box and enough patience, but what for? Still
will be mud.
By the way, did you know that some green "marbles" (actually
serpentines) will warp if not set with epoxy based mortars???
