Newbee has question about bending slate!
Quoted text begins.I heard that there is a process for bending slate
End of quote.
Sorry to butt in again... but this reminds me of a
curved sandstone wall I was building in a public place.
I would get at least twenty enquiries a day
"How do you get the sandstone to bend around the curve?"
I would explain patiently each time about how you make a template,
mark the shape on the stone, pitch off the face to the curved line etc.
My apprentice's patience ran out after the second day and
he would call out to the disbelieving questioner
"Don't bullsh** Simon, we wet it and lay it on a brick overnight"
to which they would invariably reply "I thought so" while
glaring accusingly at me.
The second most common question was "Hey mate, is this stuff
man made stone, or is it genuine artificial stone?"
I would fall right in every time, explaining geological concepts
and quarrying techniques. My apprentice would call out
"Don't bullsh** Simon, we cast this in a mould last week".
Same response as above...
