this is a good example of the role of ones perspective, in this case
not subjective but from being unknowingly influenced by technical
aspects of ones environment. I work in an image processing lab at a
government facility. For reasons I don't understand (I mean technical
ones, not purposive ones) the NIH's connection to the web is very fast.
I can just fly through the web and our in-lab systems, I guess, are
pretty fast too. All our hardware and software is continuously upgraded
and maintained by people who are exceedingly good at their work. All
this to say that I never really become aware of such bottle necks. And
because I can't stand to mess with computers on my own, I don't have
one at home and I never get exposed to this problem. As computers go,
I'm a real dufus. Goes to show one should never presume for others...

That aside, I still prefer to look at large images. I should clarify a
bit. I should say "large enough to see well" AND HAVE A REACTION TO.
Adding thumbnails to show examples and yet keep down memory and costs,
just doesn't seem effective in evoking a response.
