Websites
Hi Robin,
I hope that it will be a lot simpler than that for you. What you personally
have for a computer WILL NOT matter and WILL NOT effect your website and its
use. Your site should be located on a server of some kind ranging from
"Geoditties" and "AngelWire" to one of the top notch professional hosting
sites. I can guide you with options privately if that will be of help.
One of the first choices that you will need to make is whether you will be
doing some of the upgrades yourself or have it done for you, as well as how
much input you want in the setting-up of the original site. If you pay
someone say $300 to make a site for you, it will be up to you to ftp
(transfer) the files to the server of your choice, and it will be your
responsibility to make it work on your chosen server. If you pay a bit more
for the initial construct, the ftp transfer and upkeep will fall on the
shoulders of someone else. Adding new elements, in your case pictures of
your work, generally costs less than $100 per session, in which several new
pictures could be accommodated.
Training to add the pictures yourself is always an option, but again this is
a choice that you will make. You don't need to be an online guru to have a
very nice personal page that follows you and your art. The site that you
have discussed wouldn't be very expensive to develop and maintain. We do a
lot of sites like this for doctors at a large medical center. It's just a
link to click to learn more about them when you see their listing on the
center's website. You get to see their hobbies, pets, kids.. whatever they
want to share. Some avoid having a site. Others love them. The real
expense of developing a commercial website is the Demographic research and
marketing that it doesn't appear that you will either want or need. It may
leave you with more money in your pocket and more time to work your art,
than learning to be a guru yourself.
