mortar for limestone blocks
Hi Philippe
My advice about cementing limestone blocks together would be to use a
hydraulic lime mortar which is of the same strength as the stone. You
have a choice of feebly, moderately or eminently hydraulic lime
depending on the hardness of the limestone. The advantage of this is
that if ever the sculpture were to be moved or dismantled it would be
easy to saw through or break the joints. Any dowels or fixings could
similarly be set in hydraulic lime. Lime is also a much more pleasant
material to use than resin. Also as the stone weathers over the coming
decades the lime mortar with weather in a similar way.
