Hi Simon,
I'll check out that second pointing reference you mention.
As well as look again for further pointing marks. The
Rovai one describing caliper enlargement, that is the
impossible to decipher one, the one that make the reader
search in vain for the lightning flash of insight.
In the local news yesterday. WWII monument unveiled.
Myannmar spelled Berma.

Nice essay. Is that rat some carving?!
I've got a pointing project that is "resting". My pointers
are scaled and work off a grid. The caliper method is
perhaps more freewheeling. Perhaps your second source is
something I will attempt and succeed in understanding.
