Subject:
mortar for limestone blocks
Norman
cementitious - mortar made with portland cement
render - in the UK usually refers to exterior plaster either cement or
lime based
harling - Usually lime render which is thrown onto the wall to give
rough texture which is then limewashed
dry-hydrated lime - non hydraulic lime powder, the stuff you buy at
builders merchants
weatherings - stone detailing like string courses, hood moulds, copings
etc
quoins - the large stones that run up the corners of buildings
and fat lime - putty lime
And how do you knock up the lime with water? It sounds
painful, and perverse. - Lime Putty does not usually need water to be
added especially if the sand is damp or wet. Hydraulic lime is a powder
so needs water to be mixed with it . Putty lime mortars are usually
mixed in a roller mill or a blender. Hydraulic mortars are usually
mixed in a rotating drum mixer.
