Subject: mortar ethics

Hi all,

The only way I've ever seen a contractor change their practices is if they
can charge even a little more money for the work. If the builder can
legitimately claim to be experienced or an expert with heritage or older
buildings he can often charge more, he can also make the claim when he's
quoting for a job that many "standard builders" do things that can actually
damage the building and can ultimately cost the client much more.

If he continues to use the same mix having claimed to be an expert, well
that's another ethical question.

My guess is that if he studies it all a bit carefully he'll realise that he
can save costs and charge more and probably get most of the quality jobs as
well!
