pointing machines barry x ball
Philip,
regarding my "why" rant, all I can say is that anything I say here is just
my opinion, and certainly open to challenge from anyone with a different
point of view.
My thoughts on why BarryX used stone go like this. The piece could have been
done using a casting method. An acrylic or polyester resin could have
brought forth the though easier then stone. Maybe what bothers me is that
the process was made as difficult a possible. The celebration of making a
hard job harder, just goes against my lazy work ethic.
My reaction to Barryx's is very personal, and since Bill brought this work
to the list, I feel free to respond. I can't really be more forthcoming
about why the word soulless came to me, it just did , and still describes
what I feel about it.
I'm not surprised to know that you and others, I'm sure, do not share my
opinion. Trying to get a bunch of artists to agree on one thing is like
trying to heard cats. Disagreement would best be dealt with around a table
with fellow opionated people, and ale of course!
Cheers,
George Graham
