More about the DSP
I spoke with Cristoph Spath several years ago. He offered
to rough out and mill to within 1/2" a life size marble
figure for around $five thousand. It was a question of
what one's time is worth. Perhaps also one's sanity,
pointing and enlarging being what they are. 1/2" material
remaining is a situation very very far from finished.
It looks like several workers are milling right to a
finish, having developed a style built on the texture of
the milled finish. Jon Isherwood's work would seem to
show what an untouched milled surface may look like.

He also provides an interesting statement.
I believe Ball also described milling to a fluted finish
which maybe the same in evidence in Isherwood's work. As
helpful as the milled finish is in terms of material
removal and accuracy of position, there still remains
quite a blank canvas upon which the carver to inscribe
her soul.
