oh oh oh
let's remember it's only a conversation, folks!
I am as guilty (and as obsessive) as anyone when it comes to
'theorizing' at times but it is only a game. truth lies, in my
experience, in the unknown ( - if anywhere).

a few brief points:

1. I attended a talk by Canada's "Dominion sculptor" on Wednesday.
one statement at the beginning made the whole 2 hours worthwhile for
me.
Eleanor Milne (the sculptor) said her mother asked her when she was
seven years old why she was drawing all the time. she replied,
"first I think, then I draw my thinking."
what a wonderful child's clarity on the artistic process!

2. let's forget about "perfection." recall that Da Vinci did not
even consider the Mona Lisa finished at the end of his life, let
alone 'perfect.' it is just an uncompleted painting to him!!

3. I finally read the Preface to "The Nigger of the 'Narcissus' " by
Joseph Conrad. I think you recommended this many moons ago, Norman.
many thanks for this!
what a wonderful statement about the art journey we are all muddling
along on!

carry on, folks!
blissfully yours,
Oscar
