hi Karen
Eleanor Milne was speaking at the National Art Gallery in Ottawa.
seemed like a monthly study group-type meeting which has visiting
artists speak.
I wasn't aware sculpting could be a civil service job :o) however she
talked about her 32 years doing a "narrative" series of the history
of Canada for the Parliament buildings, working with a team of
sculptors.
I don't know anything about the job posting available.
the material they use is mostly the cream of carving stone, Indiana
limestone, which I have not yet worked but certainly want to! the
work was quite elaborate (she had a slide show) and involved lots of
undercutting, giving wonderful chiaroscuro and shadows.

the second line I cribbed from her talk was when she spoke about her
oil paintings of some herons.... she went down a river to watch the
birds in a rowboat and said..."it was so silent it's almost like
riding a spider."

I could definitely see her as a mentor, a good teacher. wonderful
lady!
