Hah. Depends. Important to whom? My subject matter is very important to me,
because it is usually in some way an expression of myself. (Does this mean
that the artist who carved "American Woman" is a floozy or just wants one
of his own?) But the action of carving (I carve directly, I don't use
models) is the most important. The cathartic process of discovery and
refinement is where the whole value of sculpture lies for me. Perhaps if I
actually sold some of my work, that focus would shift?
