Subject: [stone] Weight of granite.
Quoted text begins. What I need to know is, How much does a cubic foot of granite
weigh. If I knew this I could calculate the weight of these
pieces and know the lifting capacity the I need to move them
around.
End of quote.
Hi John, Granite weighs in around 180 - 190 lbs /cubic foot.
Generally the darker stones are a bit more than the lighter
colors. You have certainly come into a "good deal" Had some
similar luck several years ago when an old mill site was being
cleared for a housing development, and I was able to score some
nice blocks of limestone. Also, I suspect that if a monument is
still lying around the makers shop, it should be "fair game" and
you will not be stepping on anyones memories.
