Introduction :)
As of yet I have yet to carve a piece of stone, that will change in 48 hours :) . I am an art student (fine arts) however I am taking a bit of time off, out of medical necessity. ( 3 surgeries in 6 months, its an intestinal thing) Could be a year or two before I am able to return :( . I have intermediate drawing skills, and novice sculpting skills. ( I was in my first quarter when I had to leave for my first surgery :( I am 21 years old, and think Bernini was a god amongst men. I have read MANY of "your" posts before joining myself. Having said that I have always wanted to work in stone, for as long as I can remember.
Unfortunately My college does not teach stone, only in metal and clay. I will be buying my first set of tools in two days . and some stone (or a mix, lots cheaper, especialy in familiarizing myself with the tools of the trade, well... that and I'm in a constant state of being broke :) at any rate I could really go for some book references. I am thinking "Sculpture in stone" by Josepmaria Teixido I Cami. Anyone read it ? or have a better or better suited book for the absolute beginner? I am also looking for any resourses New Mexico has to offer. Any classes of any kind etc. Please feel free to E-mail me personally if you have any info on the matter. Thank you very much.
