Quoted text begins.the stone I am speaking of comes from just East of San
Antonio, TX near the town of St. Hedwig, just south of IH 10,
on the Bexar, Willson County line.
The stone is burnt orange w/ yellow to cream collored streaks
running through it.
End of quote.
Sean, The location you mention is right in the area of the
Cretaceous / Tertiary contact. According to the generalized
state geologic map I have, there is a sandstone formation in the
Navarro group (upper most cretaceous).
This is called the Escondido Formation. There also seems to be
some sand and conglomerate in the very basil Midway Group
(Kincad Formation), and a conciderable number of sandstone
members in the wilcox group. Your location to the best I can
figure on the maps I have available puts your stone in one of
these formations. You could call or write the bureau of
economic geology in austin, or maybe get more specific
information from their web site.
