Norman,
The posts , attached to the lintels would not go anywhere, but the 10 span
worries me. Stone has very little tinsel strength. Its compressive strength
is tremendous. Even though the lintels are massive, its very weight is
working against itself. I know of some 100 year old lintels that span 10
feet. Even then, a steel plate was used underneath the stone.
Tell your friend to check with an engineer.
