Subject:
Splitting igneous Basalt using wedges and shims. An after thought!!

Quoted text begins.Hi All
I need some help please.
Recently I purchased some "wedges and shims" (w/s) for rock splitting.
I have 4 x 22mm w/s
End of quote.
I think that this may help.
I gave up using w/s as I have a lolt of reg metal wedges around the
shop.
I cut with as large a blade I have (for big or hard stuff) 360 degrees
around the stone with it over hanging the bench. If youcut the corners first
and use both lines as a guide you get a more accurate cut. Then tap in
metal wedges all the way around. Tapping in series around and around the
stone (not hard) quickly give me the result that i'm looking for. Most of
the time I wish for the cut end to be flat, therefore with an accurate cut
and slow tapping gives me a surface at the cut that needs very little work
to get flat again. t Bill
