Michael Heizer Sculpture Project/Profile
Micheal Heizer is a very interesting character and his
work I would think to be of interest to anyone in
sculptural pursuit. Interesting flash onto Robert
Smithson and his quarry tour project. Both men worthy of
study and increased knowledge. Very well written article
by the chief art critic of NY Times who stayed with Heizer
at his Nevada ranch several times over the last decades as
his immense, immense sculptural work "City" continues to
evolve and progess. Includes an interesting flashback to
the invention of Earth and Enviromental Art. I have not
studied Heizer's work, aware mostly of "Double Negative"
which is probably impossible to comprehend without
actually experiencing. But I have seen some smaller
scale, still immense, sculptural projects where concrete
apporaches the appearance of stone and curves are allowed.
To get to the site you will have to log in with the NY
Times. It is very quick and free and useful to anyone who
might want to follow new cursorily with the occasional
article of art interest.
