Michael Heizer & Evolution of List
Greetings,
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the article on Michael Heizer in the NYT
this morning. I enjoyed it because I am enthralled by his commitment and vision.
His commitment is to the place as much as to the sculpture. This kind of
artistic consumption is invigorating. For we all know that through immersion in
our commitment to something we grow.
I have been a member of this list since sometime in 1999. I was the guy
who suggested the "introducing myself" and some of the strains on shop design,
art vs. Craft etc. Lately (the past couple years) I have been lurking,
reading the posts and enjoying and learning from them for the most part. It would
be appreciated if the Chat went elsewhere. If you are not responding to some
specifics on technique or philosophy, why are you posting? There is still
plenty of room to write eloquently if not articulately on something you really
know about, so we may all benefit from your knowledge.
In short, I look to this list as a resource where we all share a little
wisdom. For a couple years I have not really had anything to share, so I read
and ponder others postings. Others may consider similar restraint and the
list may benefit from real helpful wisdom. Perhaps if we all considered this
list with the same respect we would one another in a workshop environment, we
might consider our posts a wee bit more before responding?
