Quoted text begins. All I've read says tin oxide is what to use for the final polishing of
alabaster. A friend just gave me approx. 8 ounces of zinc oxide powder---will
this work as well?

I had heard that you could use tin oxide for polishing marble, but have
never tried it for alabaster. I usually sand to 2500 grit (not sure if it's
really worth it - but I just can't stop myself), then heat the stone some
and apply a thin coat of Trewax (or any carnauba wax). Let it cool and buff
it with a soft cloth. Apply another coat of Trewax - possibly more if you
want and buff it off. Smooth and shiny.

I'd be curious to know more about acquiring and using zinc oxide powder, if
anyone feels like talking about it.
thanks.
