discs for angle grinders
To me the big question on purchasing an angle grinder is whether to get a
variable speed grinder. With a variable speed grinder you have the option
of slowing it down for sanding and polishing activities. I do not own a
variable speed grinder because I have a separate low speed polisher, but I
might do it different if starting over. Next I would recommend a 5" size
with at least 12 amps of power.
As far as blades/attachments go: To start with all you need is a good dry
cutting diamond blade (suitable for the type of stone you are carving) and a
ZEC pad set up. ZEC pads come in different grits from 16 to 120. You will
also need a "sprial cut" backing pad and locking nut and wrench. Some of
the sculptor supply stores sell a kit. The pads are econmical (about $6.00
each) and do a great job of grinding.
Eventually you can move into diamond grinder blades and diamond polishing
pads, but I wouldn't rush this move as you'll find the ZEC pads very
effective.
Good luck,
John Halter
