Christo and Goldsworhty
I, for one, don't think man can improve upon the beauty of a natural area and prefer art that's lends itself to to the natural surroundings, over that which overpowers and blots out the natural setting. For instance, in Japan, the Shinto Temples are done in brown & green so they will blend in with their natural surroundings, while the Buddhist Temples stand out so garishly, one hardly notices their natural surroundings. Needless to say, I much prefer the Shinto Temples.
I feel Christo's Orange Gates take away from the true beauty of the park, while the permanent sculptures of a more traditional nature, that don't "scream" for attention, serve to enhance and enrich the true nature of Central Park. I'm just glad Chisto's "Gates" aren't permanent.
