blackpearl soapstone
Greetings Carvers, a comment on blackpearl soapstone -- this is steatite
not talc and it can have asbestos in it. George Graham has done a bunch
of carving with this stone, probably others on this site have too and
I've carved a bit (two pieces are on my web site). It is a very nice
carving stone. The stone is available from several other places and
there is another carving stone from Virginia called alberene. Alberene
looks similar to steatite and I don't know if it's the same stone with a
different set of impurities or just another "brand name".
