I've used turntables for pieces up to about 600 or 700 lbs. I just drive a
big wood wedge into the side of the turntable to keep it from turning.
(between the upper and lower wheel).

On a separate subject, Robin wrote about studio heat:

That's going to get expensive. I just finished building a new studio, and
had to get temporary heat so the concrete would set, since we poured the
floor in December. I went through a 400 gallons of propane in about 3
weeks, at $1.36/gallon. Finally the natural gas lines were run in for the
heaters; if there is any way to run natural gas from the nearby building,
that will save you a lot of money. Looks in your photo like it's only 100
feet or so. You'll recoup the cost of trenching and pipe pretty quickly.

I went with two through-the-wall radiant heater units instead of a ceiling
hung unit. (I had ceiling hung in my old studio)- I want to keep the truss
area clear, because I had the building designed and built to accommodate a
future bridge crane. (here in the midwest used cranes can be found cheap,
from bankrupt old factories and steel mills).
