Robin - soapstone
Greetings Carvers, so I'm a bit confused about this Virginia Soapstone.
We have one opinion that Alberene is not as good as blackpearl for
carving and another that says it's the same thing. The pieces that I've
carved look darker than alberene and are identical to a sample that I
got from blackpearl. IIRC they'll send you a sample for $10-15. Any
comments on which stone is best or whether they're different? From
looking at the "flavors" on the alberene site, the stone that I've been
carving looks most like "alberene" but is darker -- it oils to a dark
black, with occasional small white flecks, but it doesn't have any green
in it. Anyone have any opinions on this mystery? George Graham where
are you, you've carved a bunch of this stuff. good carving, g
