Hi Gary ,

A couple of years ago I stopped by the New World Stone Co in
Schuyler Va. Old soapstone mill that was owned and operated by
a fellow name Kierk Ashmore-Sorensen. Picked up stone from
three different local quarries Alberene, Old Dominion, and
Climax. The Alberene does have a greenish cast to it, while the
old dominion is black (well real dark gray.) Some of the stone
has what Kierk called Nailheads -- small pyrite inclusions.
Some of the stone was shot through with them. some just scatered
and some clear of them. According to Kierk, the purest of the
old dominion type stone is what is marketed as the black pearl.
The entire region is full of old abandon quarries, some of which
are being worked once again since the designers have
"discovered" soapstone.
